You are lost in a maze.
Your goal is to get out.
They will hunt you, but
they are scared of light.
You Are The Light is a small experimental game about light, shadow and exploration by Chiel ten Brinke and Paul Scharf.
A key aspect of the game is its music, which is generated and synthesized in real time, and adapts to what happens in the game.
You can download and try You Are The Light here:
The game currently only runs on Windows, and you also need .Net4, OpenGL3, and OpenAL.
We also wrote up a neat report on what we did and how we did it. It is partly technical and also includes the results of a small play test user study we conducted. So if you are interested in that sort of stuff, you can download the report as PDF here:
Both the game and adaptive music generation algorithm were implemented by Chiel ten Brinke and Paul Scharf in C# using .NET4.
We additionally used the open source libraries AWGraphics (by Paul Scharf) and Cireon.Audio (by Tom Rijnbeek), which again use OpenTK, NVorbis and Json.NET.
We thank Tom and the here unnamed authors of the other mentioned technologies.
